When I saw the theme ‘our planet’, my first thought was preservation and protection. Due to increasing environmental awareness among the public, lot of companies now provide recycled products. More people are trying to follow the three R rules: reduce, reuse, and recycle. As a result, with the current situation, I wanted to express that our planet is in our hands. We all have to act together to preserve and protect our planet. I thought about string games that I played with my sisters as a young child . It is a game you that cannot do alone. You need the other person to go to the next step. This gave me the idea to illustrate the string game as an Earth shape. This is my working process. I drew the different hand poses first and arranged them in a circle. Then, I sketched the thread entangled with the hands and transferred it to Photoshop for detailed sketching. At first, I only changed the colors of the thread to green and blue. I noticed that it did not look like Earth, and it was too abstract. To improve this, I added leaves on the green thread to depict the land on Earth. Then I noticed the blue part did not look like the ocean. So, I added a blue watercolor from my archive at the bottom of my illustration and the top layer with a water texture. Lastly, I included the bird on top to express the nature of our planet.
